INTRODUCTION
And
this day shall be unto you for a memorial; and ye shall
keep it a feast to the LORD throughout your generations;
ye shall keep it a feast by an ordinance for ever. And
it shall come to pass, when your children shall say
unto you, what mean ye by this service? That ye shall
say, it is the sacrifice of the LORD'S Passover, who
passed over the houses of the children of Israel in
Egypt, when he smote the Egyptians, and delivered our
houses. And the people bowed the head and worshipped.
(Exodus 12:14, 26, 27)
Throughout the history of Israel, the Lord always tried
to remind them of their past and how they became the
people of God, so they will be careful to accord Him
all the praise and honour and to live according to His
will.
A
BRIEF HISTORY OF CHRISTIANITY ON KNUST CAMPUS.
The Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology
was established in 1951 and formally opened on the 22nd
January, 1952 with 202 students. The opening of the
school attracted some expatriate staff, some of were
British and members of the Evangelical Movement. They
had accepted the appointment with the mind of reaching
out to students with the Good News of JESUS CHRIST.
As a result they made every effort to befriend the students
and invited them for tea and biscuits while they held
Bible Studies. These studies gradually moved from the
lecturers' bungalows to the Halls of residence by mid
1950. The years especially until the mid 1970 a few
Christian denominational students groups existed among
which was the Presbyterian Students Union, (PSU) which
met once in a week. The executives of Presbyterian Students
Union and the Methodist Students Union (MSU) came together
to find a way of meeting of the spiritual needs their
members after the collapse of the Sunday morning services
conducted by the Protestant Chaplain, this led to the
formation of the Presbyterian Methodist Students’
Union (PMSU) in 1985. In the 1997/98 academic year saw
the official changing of PSU to the NATIONAL UNION OF
RESBYTERIAN STUDENTS OF GHANA (NUPSG) now the NATIONAL
UNION OF PRESBYTERIAN STUDENTS-GHANA (NUPS-G) this change
took place at the 2003 congress at Presec Legon. The
union was formed with the following objectives in mind:
-
To bring Presbyterian students in all post-basic educational
institutions from Ashanti, Brong Ahafo, Northern,
Upper East, Upper West and part of the Western Regions
of Ghana together.
-
To instil Christian discipline and the fear of God
in all members by means of effective witnessing and
living exemplary Christian life among others.
-
To establish branches (of the union) in all post-basic
educational institutions within our jurisdiction.
-
To encourage active participation of members in Y.P.G/J.Y
and other local church activities.
-
To foster cooperation with other Christian movement
on KNUST campus and other campuses.
MOTTO/SLOGAN
