“Love must be sincere.
Hate what is evil, cling to what is good… share
with God’s people who are in need. Practise hospitality”
Romans 12: 9, 13.
Dearly beloved, welcome to our page
the WELFARE COMMITTEE of the KWAME NKRUMAH UNIVERSITY
OF SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY, KNUST coordinating branch
of the NATIONAL UNION OF PRESBYTERIAN STUDENTS-GHANA
(NUPS-G). This is one of the oldest committees formed
in the union since its inception in the early 1970s.
This committee’s formation was necessitated by
the welfare needs of members and most essentially in
fulfilment of scripture as in Matthew’s gospel
according to chapter 25 verses 31-46 of which parts
reads:
“FOR I WAS HUNGRY
AND YOU GAVE ME NOTHING TO EAT. I WAS THIRSTY AND YOU
GAVE ME NOTHING TO DRINK. I WAS A STRANGER AND YOU DID
NOT INVITE ME, I NEEDED CLOTHES AND YOU DID NOT CLOTHE
ME, I WAS IN PRISON AND YOU DID NOT LOOK FOR ME…”
(Verses 42 & 43).
The basic objective of the establishment is to attend
to the welfare needs of the good and precious ladies
and gentlemen of this Union and the honourable Associates
and our indefatigable Alumni attention is also extended
to even strangers who find themselves in our fold. Among
the areas where attention is given pre-eminence is our
sick colleagues, in times of bereavement (only for members’
nuclear families of members and Alumni), weddings, in
financial difficulties (note this can only be done with
approval from the executive committee). The committee
also plays an instrumental role in the organisation
of Rallies, Leadership Training Seminars and other activities
of the coordinating branch.
The committee over the years has been under the auspices
of the Assistant Secretary who doubles as the Welfare
officer as enshrined in our constitution.
The Welfare committee is made up of five dedicated,
vibrant and willing-to-serve members’ vis-à-vis:
• Jennifer Obuobi-Donkor (Chairperson of the Welfare
Committee)
• Gifty Hadjor
• Adu Kwadwo Gyimah
• Nana Bawuah
• P.K. Ofori
The Chairperson’s message to all members in the
coordinating branch is “Continue steadfastly in
the Kingdoms business, for God is not unjust to forget
about your labour of love, for in your difficult moments
the Lord will be there for you.”
WELFARE! WE CARE
